''Phrynoponera gabonensis'' is an Afrotropical species of ant in the subfamily Ponerinae. ''P. gabonensis'' is the most common, widely distributed and frequently encountered member of the genus ''Phrynoponera''. Specimens are usually retrieved from leaf litter samples but also occur in pitfall traps.
